Clara Barton Chapter

Who was Clara Barton?

Clara Barton is one of the most honored women in the United States. She risked her life providing nursing care and supplies to wounded soldiers on the battlefield, and often put others' lives before her own. While visiting Switzerland, she learned about a European effort to provide efficient care to those injured in war. After volunteering with the International Committee of the Red Cross, she brought that movement to America, where she remained the founder and president of the American Red Cross for 23 years. Without her selflessness and motivation, the aid people depend on from the American Red Cross wouldn't have existed today.
