Grace Hopper Chapter
Who was Grace Hopper?
Grace Brewster Murray Hopper, normally called Grace Hopper, was an American computer scientist and United States Navy rear admiral. She served an important role in the creation of UNIVAC, the first all-electronic digital computer. She was also one of the first computer programmers to work on the Harvard Mark I. Hopper assisted in the creation of COBOL, which is one of the first high level programming languages. She also invented the first compiler which is a program that translates programming code to machine language. Sadly, she passed away on January 1, 1992.
